Country Ride Walloon to Hiddenvale

Saturday morning at 10am a motely crew of young and less young, and healthy and not as healthy group of 7 set off from John’s place at Walloon for a ride to Hidden Vale and back.   For the young and fully fit of which there was 1 – this was a training ride.  The next young and mostly healthy rider was also out to train, but not as hard and the other young one was recovering from a nasty lurgy which saw him sit out The Epic last weekend so he was on his first ride back – lets call it a “Recovering” ride.   The rest of us not so young anymore were...

Riding up Duck Creek Road to O’Reilly’s

You know you’re in for some climbing when the guide book to Duck Creek Rd  gives you “Climbing Technique” tips…… At just after 9am on a Monday morning we took off on our bikes to ride up Duck Creek Rd to O’Reilly’s.  We parked at the first gate we came to as it seemed to have more space to park all the cars and it was only a short ride from here to where the dirt began. What a beautiful day Jenny had picked for this ride.  Hardly a cloud in the sky and here we are out in the...

Spring Creek Redbank Gully Trail – Lockyer Valley

We had some friends do this ride a couple of weeks before us and it sounded like fun.  It is detailed in the “Where to Mountain Bike in South East Queensland” book which is a great guide for anyone living in Southeast Queensland.  Apart from a little blurb on what to expect – we really had no idea though, so here it is, Kate and John’s take on Spring Creek – Redbank Gully and Wallers Road in the Lockyer Valley Mountain Bike Ride. The book has a suggested route which was 43km long and to park at the end of Millers Rd, down next to the Gatton Correctional Facility.  We parked across...

Bare Rock – Main Range NP – QLD

Not every adventure needs to be EPIC.  Here we took advantage of a weekend of great weather and also a Full Moon Rising. Cunninghams Gap west of Brisbane has two peaks on either side,  Mt Mitchell and Mt Cordeaux.  It is part of the scenic rim and is an adventure playground. On this walk we set off on a Saturday afternoon to camp at Bare Rock and see the sunset and the full moon rise.  The first stop was 3.4km from the car park at the base of  Mt Cordeaux. We took a break to admire the  great views of the scenic rim, Lake Moogerah,...

Hinchinbrook Island – The Thorsborne Trail

Dad had always talked of visiting Hinchinbrook Island and tackling the Thorsborne Trail, so when he convinced his two wonderful daughters it would be fun too, off we went.  Dad’s backpack had room enough for his massive sleeping bag and a borrowed tent and not much else….he led the whole way, wondering why we couldn’t keep up with him! Our story was that his cotton shirt was stinky and we didn’t want to get too close. Seriously though, if you are ever fortunate enough to spend a couple of days in the Wilderness tackling the elements and enjoying the great...
