Munda Biddi – Planning and riding it

I first heard about the Munda Biddi Trail when I walked past a marker while walking the Bibbulmun track.  Now I love a bit of bushwalking – but your telling me I can ride my bike here instead!!!  Hell yeah.  So I joined the email list, liked it on Facebook and waited till I found the right time to head on over from Brisbane and check it out.   The right time came when I found some like-minded chicks and we set about planning and flying over to WA to ride it.  We had the maps and an itinerary from an organized trip to assist us in planning...

Goldfields Track

The Goldfields Track – Ballarat to Bendigo The Goldfields Track or Great Dividing Trail extends from Mt Buninyong (hill above Ballarat) to Bendigo and stretches for about 210km.  Along the way it traverses a diversity of terrain and goes through the heart of Gold Rush Country providing you a rich insight to how things were when gold fever struck in the mid 1800’s.  You can walk or ride the track and it is well marked with some sections just for walking and arrows pointing were the bikes can go around.  If you choose to ride it, make sure you’re fit...

Murray to Mountains Rail Trail Ride

Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail Holiday time again and we were off to Victoria to explore.  We’d visited Beechworth a year ago and loved what little bit we saw of the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail so this time wanted to ride it all.  Ride it all and do it Bikepacking and camping along the way.  I love this form of travelling…..something about it I find a little bit intrepid like.  Everything you want, you have to carry, and your camping, so getting away from it all, relaxing and playing cards.   All that, plus you get to use all the...

Riding up Duck Creek Road to O’Reilly’s

You know you’re in for some climbing when the guide book to Duck Creek Rd  gives you “Climbing Technique” tips…… At just after 9am on a Monday morning we took off on our bikes to ride up Duck Creek Rd to O’Reilly’s.  We parked at the first gate we came to as it seemed to have more space to park all the cars and it was only a short ride from here to where the dirt began. What a beautiful day Jenny had picked for this ride.  Hardly a cloud in the sky and here we are out in the...

Lhasa to Kathmandu Bike Ride Part 1

My good friends Mark and Bekk suggested we ride our bikes from Lhasa to Kathmandu – 1000km and high mountain passes over 5000 meters.  I didn’t own a bike other than a knock about weekender but I thought why not, sounds great – I better start training and also buy a better bike.  This isn’t a trip you can just do on your own, we booked a tour but had the advantage that it was just our group of friends on the tour – 7 of us in total.  It was a once in a life time experience and I’ll remember it forever. Kathmandu –...

6 NSW and ACT MTB Parks

We were meeting friends for a Mountain Bike adventure in Morton National Park for the weekend so we drove down from Brisbane and along the way checked out 6 NSW and ACT MTB parks.  Here’s what we discovered. Awaba MTB park – Newcastle We had spent the previous day in the car – driving down the New England Highway to Newcastle – driving….all day and arriving about 6ish.  We stayed in a little Motel at Toronto that was close enough to the highway that we didn’t need to drive into Newcastle and near enough to Awaba for us to visit the...

Spring Creek Redbank Gully Trail – Lockyer Valley

We had some friends do this ride a couple of weeks before us and it sounded like fun.  It is detailed in the “Where to Mountain Bike in South East Queensland” book which is a great guide for anyone living in Southeast Queensland.  Apart from a little blurb on what to expect – we really had no idea though, so here it is, Kate and John’s take on Spring Creek – Redbank Gully and Wallers Road in the Lockyer Valley Mountain Bike Ride. The book has a suggested route which was 43km long and to park at the end of Millers Rd, down next to the Gatton Correctional Facility.  We parked across...

Western Arthurs 2

Hiking the Western Arthurs

Day 1 Brisbane to Junction Creek     Walking time: – 3 hours.  Kate -Rushing around at the last minute finding a shoe lace for my gaiters was not on my plan first thing this morning so I only just made it to Pete’s house on time where the lovely Hannah dropped us to the airport. Met Aaron there and boarded the flight, no problems. Slick operation at Hobart Airport with Aaron’s uncle Grant meeting us with the cooking gas and shellite, while Pete went off to get the hire car. We collected the bags met Pete outside in our Nissan Micra, waved a goodbye to Grant...

Guthega to Thredbo

April in the Snowy Mountains is a hikers playground.  The air is fresh and the views are amazing.  My sister and I spent a week in Thredbo exploring as much as we could.  We had friends join us for a couple of days for what turned out to be a full on weekend.  We started on the Friday with 4 girls walking from Guthega to Thredbo….the car we left in Guthega, well we got that back a few days later where it was parked at Pinch River Camp Ground. But there is another adventure in between…. Beth and I were joined last night in Thredbo by...
